Challenge Coins

Marines know who was with them when it counted. They keep that hour close. You order a challenge coin for the moment a leader places it in a palm after work worth remembering. Your Marines carry that coin from then on, and years later they still bring it out when asked.

What are Marine challenge coins?

Marine challenge coins carry an identity your unit already has. The unit’s crest comes first, and you pass that along so anyone who serves with you finds the coin familiar at once. You can order a custom shape so the outline follows the crest and stays tied to that identity. A bulldog turns up on a lot of them.

When the work gets noticed, your commander or a senior enlisted Marine hands over Marine challenge coins while shaking hands. A birthday ball is another time you do this, and so is the day command changes. After that, a Marine carries it daily. Decades later that Marine takes the coin from a pocket and tells friends what those days were like.

Gold Camp Pendleton base coin with the base sign over a coastline and pier

Name the
whole base

Give every Marine on your base a coin that names the place they served. At the end of a tour the base commander or the sergeant major hands that coin over on the way out.

Two antique silver shield cutout coins for Empire, 2d Battalion 10th Marines, with a crowned skull and crossed rounds

Set the
unit mark

Lead with a nickname. Set your crest beside it, and put the lineage on your battalion or battery coin so a Marine can point to the fights that outfit has been part of. Once that same mark sits in every hand, your Marines can spot their own at a glance.

Give the coin
they earned

Recruit graduation is the day. A drill instructor hands a coin to someone who earned the title, and a Young Marines program does the same once a young Marine has put the work in. The platoon and a short motto line can go on the face, and you make the handoff on the parade deck.

We've got answers

Start with the questions that come up most when you are designing and ordering custom Marine challenge coins.

We offer gold, silver and copper platings standard with our orders. We also offer upgraded antique finishes that give an aged look to your coins. Antique finishes help greatly when your design is mostly metal (die struck) as the darker recessed areas provide a greater contrast for text and fine lines. We also offer some specialty colored metals that have a similar appearance to powder-coating (no charge), black nickel (a shiny gunmetal appearance), and now an iridescent rainbow plating (price on request).

The minimum order is 50 coins, but we always recommend ordering 100 due to the quantity discount at this quantity. Typically ordering 100 coins is only ~20% more expensive than ordering 50.

Our coins are made from brass metal if they are round. If the coins are a special shape or feature a high-relief 3D design, the material is a zinc alloy. We can also make coins out of copper, iron, and aluminum depending on your needs.

We keep your coin’s mold for a period of 3 years. If you reorder in that 3 year period, the 3 year storage period starts over!

We have multiple options for production location depending on your design choice and budget. We have manufacturing here in Florida and also overseas. Please consult with one of our sale professionals about what will work best for your challenge coin order.

You do not pay for a mold fee again on a reorder as long as the previous mold is still on file (kept for 3 years from the latest order date).
