Much like the turtles, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird - the creators of the iconic series - have humble beginnings as comic book writers. The living room of their rented home served as their studio headquarters, but without any paying work, the pair needed to find ways of staying busy. A few sketches later, the Ninja Turtles started taking form. Their first comic sold 3,000 copies, and by issue number four and five, they were selling 100,000 copies. Even before the movies, TV shows, and video games, the pair had realized their dream; writing and drawing comics full-time, paying rent, and making a living.
Today, the Ninja Turtles are as popular as ever, and Kevin Eastman has embarked on a worldwide tour to celebrate four decades of Turtle-Mania with fans!
Looking back on the long history of Ninja Turtles, Kevin Eastman described how interacting with fans is one of his favorite parts. “They all have a story to tell, a personal experience; They were touched by either the characters or something we drew or published… It’s contagious, it’s invigorating, it’s inspiring, and it really makes me want to work harder and do a better job,” he said.
Along with signings, photographs, and sharing sketches with fans, Kevin designed a limited series of 40th anniversary Ninja Turtle coins to bring along to each convection stop this year. The coins feature iconic imagery from the series, giving them an eye-catching look and feel. Perhaps the most striking feature is Kevin Eastman’s signature stamped into one side of the coin, adding a personal touch to the collectable treasure. 
Kevin has already made stops in Mexico, Greece, France, and Canada during his world expo tour to celebrate the turtles’ 40th anniversary, and there are more stops to come. Each convention appearance gives him the chance to connect with fans, share stories, and celebrate the rich history of the iconic characters. He said, “It’s great to be a steward of something that awesome.”
