Finch, a company that designs beautiful and functional folding knives, contacted our team, hoping we could help with a unique project. Every year, Finch creates a limited series of unique knives and we had the pleasure of helping them add the finishing touch to a few of their Runtly XL models. They say that the Runtly XL is inspired by a classic fishing lure - the Heddon River Runt - greeting a short and stout tool for the great outdoors. Each knife has a clean, crisp look, and our job was to create coin inlays for each knife’s handles.

Thinking Outside the Box in Custom Coin Design

Using custom coins as inlays is a creative and practical branding solution. Finch had very fine specifications for the one-sided coins that fall outside our normal sizing charts, but our team was more than happy to make it work. For starters, each coin is 0.625” in diameter and just 1.5 mm thick, making them much smaller than your typical custom coin. The flat side of each coin also ensured each inlay could lay seamlessly into each knife handle.

This project is just one demonstration of how versatile custom coins can be when you have the right mindset.
