Even small things can make a big difference.
Over the years, we’ve been proud to help design custom challenge coins for fundraising and special causes, so when an 11-year-old from Long Island reached out with an idea of his own, we were more than happy to help out.
His name is Cooper, and he saw an opportunity to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital at his brother’s baseball tournament in Cooperstown. The tournament brought in families from far and wide, and Cooper was excited to do his part in raising awareness and, hopefully, making a difference one coin at a time.
The design of these coins is a celebration of America’s favorite pastime. The red, white, and blue color-scheme helps the artwork pop, and on the back, Cooper made sure to include the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital logo. During the baseball tournament, families could purchase either a gold or silver coin from Cooper as a souvenir from their trip to Cooperstown. The baseball logo, fireworks, and “Cooperstown 2024” banner are all in reference to the tournament, so any player or family member can look back with fond memories on the trip.
Another unique aspect of these coins is the simulated enamel production process. To meet Cooper’s deadline and make sure the coins were ready for the tournament, we did a domestic rush order. American made challenge coins are produced much faster than standard coins, and have amazing detail and color thanks to the simulated enamel.
Instead of stamping the artwork into coin blanks and filling the recessed areas with enamel paint, these coins were created by layering enamel colors over the surface of the coins, giving them a unique texture and sense of depth, while also cutting down production time. As an added feature, the edges of each coin are cut with a reed pattern similar to what you’d see on a quarter. It gives the coins another unique texture and sense of personality.
It was an honor working with Cooper to design these custom coins, and we’re looking forward to working with him again one day!
