Every custom challenge coin starts with a story. For this customer, the goal was to create a coin that went beyond a standard design and captured heritage, location, and pride in a single piece.
Working closely with the All About Challenge Coins design team, they set out to create a coin that would feel meaningful in hand and intentional in every detail.
From the beginning, this project was about more than appearance. The customer wanted both sides of the coin to work together, each contributing to the overall story rather than serving as a front and back.
The final design uses detailed imagery to represent important elements of identity and place. Landscapes, maritime features, and symbolic elements were carefully balanced to ensure the coin felt cohesive from every angle.
By treating both sides as equally important, the finished coin tells a complete story instead of a single snapshot.
To bring the artwork to life, the coin was produced with 3D sculpting on both sides. This added depth, texture, and contrast, giving the design a strong visual presence and a premium feel.
An antique gold finish was chosen to enhance the sculpted details, allowing highlights and shadows to define the artwork naturally. The result is a coin that feels substantial and timeless, designed to be handled, examined, and appreciated.
Rather than using a traditional round coin, the customer opted for a fully custom cutout shape. This decision helped the coin stand out immediately and reinforced the theme of the design.
The unique silhouette frames the artwork and draws attention to the most important elements, creating a coin that feels distinctive and purpose-built rather than generic.
Color was used intentionally to highlight specific features without overpowering the metalwork. Flags, water, and landscape elements were brought to life using carefully selected enamel colors.
Translucent enamel allowed the texture of the metal beneath to remain visible, adding dimension while maintaining the depth created by the 3D sculpting. This balance of color and metal gives the coin a layered, refined appearance.
The finished coin reflects the customer’s vision and the meaning behind it. Designed for recognition and commemoration, it is a piece meant to be kept, shared, and remembered.
Projects like this show how custom challenge coins can serve as lasting symbols of pride and connection, carrying meaning well beyond the moment they are presented.
