When your department names this year’s winner, award coins give that title a form the person can keep. The same honor will go to someone new next cycle, and the design you settle on now is the one past holders still show. The winner takes the coin home from the stage.

What are award coins?

Officer of the Year, a safety award, a group merit award, a hackathon prize, or a regional performance award each gets a coin that belongs to that title alone. Police and fire departments order them, along with government agencies, company operations teams, safety programs, schools, and the committees that hand a prize to the winner. The winner keeps the coin, and past recipients hold onto the one from their own year.

Custom award coins usually show the award name beside the organization’s emblem, plus the year, a laurel, a star, or a badge outline. The reverse can take the winner’s name or the date, engraved once you approve the artwork. A plaque stays on an office shelf and a certificate gets filed, while a coin is small enough to carry and heavy enough to feel like an honor.

Silver Createathon winner coin with a hexagon logo on white glitter enamel, on light wood and orange paper

Stage
prize

The winner carries the coin off the stage when a tournament or a hackathon ends. Unlike a certificate, the winner keeps this prize and can show it later. The event name and the year go on the coin as part of the order.

Team
merit award

A department can give every member of the crew the same coin when the honor covers a group effort. The next crew receives a new edition with its own year, and both editions show the award name.

Annual
award

Past winners still show this coin off, because the design stays the same from year to year. You order that same artwork each year, with the new year on the coin as part of the order. A new holder can set this year’s coin beside an older one and the artwork still matches.

We've got answers

Everything you need to know about designing, ordering, and creating your custom award coins.

Yes, each winner’s name can be engraved on the coin, usually on the back. A date or a title can go on there too, and we can number the coins in sequence so each one stands apart. You keep one award design and still hand every winner something with their own name on it.

You can reorder this award coin for next year’s winner. We keep that coin’s mold on file for 3 years, and a repeat of the same design in that window pays no new mold fee. Each reorder restarts the 3-year mold hold, so an annual award keeps its mold.

The minimum order for award coins is 50 coins. Many customers order 100 because the price per coin drops at that quantity.

Different platings can mark first, second and third place, or a top tier of the award. An antique finish darkens the recessed areas so text and fine lines stand out.
